About us

For over 35 years as an independent publisher, our mission has been to promote mindful discussion of humankind’s present and future lives. We have published unique and paradigm-shifting ideas in subjects such as ecology, sustainability, psychedelics, consciousness, and cultural studies that inspire both individual and social change.

Synergetic Press is more than a publisher. Books, both print and digital, are only part of our mission to promote mindful discussion of humankind’s present and future lives as stewards of this planet.

For almost 40 years, we’ve published unique and paradigm-shifting ideas in subjects such as ecology, sustainability, cultural studies, social justice, consciousness, and psychedelics that inspire both individual and social change. In part, the press arose to fill the void of information about these topics.

The roots of the press extend back to the early activists who formed the Theater of All Possibilities in San Francisco in 1967 and the Institute of Ecotechnics (IE) in 1973, collectives that fused the values of the arts, ecology, and enterprise. The IE team conceived, built, and operated the initial work of Biosphere II to create a better understanding of our world and the possible explorations beyond it. Synergia Ranch, a regenerative farm and conference center established in 1969 outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico serves as home base for IE as well as the press, which also has offices in London, providing global reach and connection.

Synergetic Press sits within the ecosystem of the Institute and its other affiliates, creating a vibrant and flourishing activist environment. Through these projects, we have found ourselves in community with poets and theater-makers, researchers, thinkers, and changemakers who pondered the inner depths of their consciousness and the outer realms of our interdependence—together they formed a constellation of rich stories and new ideas that continue to shape our collective dreaming in this ever-changing world.

We continue to expand our outreach beyond the book, hosting a number of symposiums and events both locally and internationally.

Our Mission

Synergetic Press is an independent publisher that advances transformative ideas and tools to inspire personal and social change, deepen our connection to all beings, and support a reciprocal relationship with our planet.

We recognize that systems of oppression have long perpetuated social and environmental inequity and aim to create fertile ground for some of the most important and time-sensitive discussions of our age: climate action, promoting equity, liberating our consciousness, and healing ourselves and the land. Through a collaborative approach with our authors and their communities, we expand the reach of essential, timely works.

Our mission is to cultivate globally informed conversations that are inclusive and locally relevant. The topics we offer weave together diverse experiences and an array of interdisciplinary fields. Our authors are leading thinkers, visionaries, and cultural creatives who are dedicated to building a regenerative culture for people and planet.

We co-publish with Transform Press, a publisher founded to preserve and publish the Alexander and Ann Shulgin legacies of psychedelic research, and The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) — a nonprofit organization working to raise awareness and understanding of psychedelic substances.
