Caravan of Dreams Theater Vol.2
Synergetic Press
In contrast with the first volume, the second is devoted to new mythologies and social forces. The three plays explore three American archetypal pursuits of happiness: the glory of the lone individual, the glamour of Hollywood, and the magic lure of Space.
The Caravan of Dreams Touring Theater — also known as the “Theater of All Possibilities” — was founded in 1967 by director Kathelin Hoffman and dramaturge Johnny Dolphin. Exercising the ensemble spirit of the Commedia Dell’arte and the Globe theater, it is a theater of ideas and energies that aims to stretch the boundaries of theatrical performance, exploring human intentions rather than reactions towards the making of history.
Plays included: Billy the Kid • Metal Woman • Tin Can Man

Why this book matters
- Three original plays exploring the great American myths — the lone outlaw, Hollywood glamour, and the frontier of Space — with wit, energy, and theatrical daring
- Created by the Caravan of Dreams Touring Theater, a company that brought the spirit of Commedia Dell’arte and the Globe to the exploration of modern consciousness
- Billy the Kid, Metal Woman, and Tin Can Man each interrogate a different American dream — and find it both irresistible and insufficient
- A theater that explores human intentions rather than reactions — continuing the reach of Shakespeare, Goethe, and Brecht into the post-nihilist space age
- An essential companion to Volume 1 and a vital document of one of the most original theatrical visions of the 20th century
